The University of Newcastle Surgical Society (UNSS) was founded in 2009 to represent, promote and foster the surgical interests of students studying the Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine programs at the University of Newcastle.
We are a not-for-profit organisation that endeavours to connect, inform and support our future surgeons, doctors and GPs throughout their time at medical school.
We achieve this through seminars, publications, media and skills training sessions. We manage and fund around 10 academic and social initiatives for our members each year. These help give students a well-rounded university experience and supplements their formal coursework.
The UNSS is a well regarded society integral to the lives of many medical students who strive to be the surgeons of tomorrow. Our members span over the 5 years of medical school and encompass several hundred students. They form a socially and culturally diverse cohort; both local and international; rural and metropolitan, and also indigenous. We have students from every state in Australia and from over a dozen countries around the world.
